Kremsegg Castle
At the heart of Europe, on a hilltop in a well-connected town, stands Schloss Kremsegg, a Baroque castle with roots in the 12th century. From a private family residence to a museum, the building has served many purposes. Since April 2026, it has found a new purpose:To become a home for timeless wisdom and the cultivation of compassion, connecting religious traditions with modern science and bringing their insights into the service of humanity and the planet.
Home to timeless wisdom
Castle Kremsegg comprises two buildings with a total of 5,000 m², surrounded by a 42-hectare park in the town of Kremsmünster. The town has a long tradition of education and Christian heritage, good public transport connections to Austria’s major cities, and both the infrastructure of a town and the unspoilt surroundings of rural Austria.We are transforming this historic castle into a vibrant center for education, contemplative practice, culture, and community.The acquisition began in spring 2026, with part of the purchase price still outstanding. Eversince a dedicated team of volunteers has already begun bringing it back to life and filling it with meaningful activity.

Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s vision for the castle is as clear as it is far-reaching: a beacon of wisdom and compassion where people of all ages can cultivate wisdom and compassion through study, dialogue, and practice.From monasteries, schools, retreat centers, social welfare projects, online platforms, and youth initiatives, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s work has taken many forms over more than fifty years, creating places where wisdom, compassion, education, and spiritual practice can flourish. These accomplishments, realized together with many collaborators, are offerings to the world.At Kremsegg Castle, Rinpoche’s vision opens a new chapter: a historic place of learning and culture becoming a center for contemplative wisdom, grounded in Buddhist-inspired values and open to all.This one integrated vision brings together a university, an innovative school, a living library of wisdom traditions, a meditation hall, and public spaces for well-being, culture, and community.Honoring its legacy while addressing the needs of our time, Kremsegg becomes a place to study, think together, be inspired, and reconnect with what matters.Where education, practice, scholarship, and service meet in a single offering for the wider world.
